Notifications
What creates a notification, where it goes, and the bell and Notifications page in the app.
Prodgator tells you about failures, deployments waiting for approval, security alerts and plan limits. Every member gets them in the app; Org admins can also send them to Slack and to outbound webhooks.
Each member picks their own email and Slack direct message categories in Profile > Notifications (open Profile from the menu under your name). Org admins set where the whole organization's notifications go (the Organization delivery card and outbound webhooks) in Organization > Notifications.
What creates a notification
Prodgator creates notifications for:
- Pipeline failures
- Deployments that need approval, and their results (approved, rejected, deployed, failed, rolled back)
- New open security alerts with Critical or High severity
- Compliance violations
- System messages, such as reaching 80% of your plan's monthly run limit
Outside the app, notifications are grouped into three categories:
| Category | Covers |
|---|---|
| Pipeline failures | A pipeline run fails |
| Deployments | A deployment needs approval, succeeds, fails or is rolled back |
| Security and compliance | A new vulnerability or a compliance violation is found |
Where notifications go
| Channel | Plan | Set up by |
|---|---|---|
| In the app | All plans | Nothing to set up |
| Slack channel | Team and above | Org admin |
| Slack direct messages | Team and above | Org admin turns it on, each member opts in |
| One Slack channel per category | Business and above | Org admin |
| Outbound webhooks | Business and above | Org admin |
In the app
The bell in the header shows new notifications for your organization and for you as they arrive. Each row leads with what it is about (the repository and environment, or the workflow) and says what happened underneath, and the icon's tooltip names the kind of event. On a phone the bell opens a drawer from the top instead of a popover. The Notifications page lists them all. Filter by All or Unread, and by Pipeline, Security, Compliance, Deployments or System. You can mark notifications read one at a time or all at once.
Email settings need the Team plan or above. Each member picks the categories they want in Profile > Notifications, and an Org admin turns email on or off for the organization in Organization > Notifications. Email sending is not turned on for Prodgator yet, so these settings have no effect for now.
Language
Each member's email and Slack direct messages are in the language they chose in Profile > Preferences, or the organization's default language when they have not chosen one. Slack channel posts and outbound webhooks belong to the whole organization, so they use the default language (English when there is none). Names you gave things, such as repositories, environments and policies, are never translated. A few older notifications have no translated text yet; they keep their original English inside an email or Slack message that is otherwise in your language.
