DORA metrics
How Prodgator calculates deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate and time to recovery from your pipeline runs.
Prodgator calculates the four DORA metrics from your pipeline runs and compares each one with the previous period of the same length. They appear in the DORA metrics widget on the dashboard and on the Analytics page. DORA metrics need the Team plan or higher.
Pick a period of the last 24 hours, 7, 30 or 90 days. A period longer than your plan's data retention is shortened to the retention window (7 days on Free, 30 on Team).
Which runs count
All four metrics use runs on the or branch. Prodgator treats a successful run on those branches as a deployment. Runs on other branches are ignored.
Deployment frequency
Successful / runs divided by the number of days in the period. Shown per day when it is 1 or more a day, otherwise per week.
Lead time for changes
The average duration of successful / runs. This measures how long your pipeline takes from start to finish, not the time from commit to deployment.
Change failure rate
Failed or timed-out / runs as a percentage of all / runs in the period.
Time to recovery (MTTR)
For each workflow on /, Prodgator walks the runs in order. A failure starts an incident; the next successful run of the same workflow ends it. MTTR is the average time from the first failure's completion to the recovering run's completion. Incidents with no successful run yet are counted as unresolved.
No data
A metric with nothing to measure has no value rather than 0:
- Lead time: no successful / run in the period.
- Change failure rate: no / run in the period.
- MTTR: no incident recovered in the period.
The comparison with the previous period is left out when the previous period has no data.
Reference bands
DORA's published performance bands, for comparison. Prodgator does not label your team with them.
